I can't provide any advise on the steppers but I can provide some on the
machineable wax.

I recently machined a test piece for a rifle action using the hard blue
machinable wax available at most of the machine tools supply places. If
your going to use your machined wax pattern for lost wax investment casting,
DO NOT use this type of wax!

It melts at too high a temperature for lost wax casting. This allows the
wax to expand before it begins to burn out of the mold and causes cracks in
the mold, leading to a defective casting!
Look for a low melting point machinable wax for your pattern. One that
melts around 150 ° or so is ideal as that would allow you to steam most of
the wax from the shell before burnout and also allows you to reclaim most of
the wax.
