the kernel configurator is pretty descriptive... i was speeking as someone
who just came into linux a few years ago... its basically:
(disclamer: this is how it worked last time i reconpiled a kernel for
2.2.14 i think...)
get source code, put it in /usr/src/linux
cd to /usr/src/linux
make xconfig (gets you to a gui)
the rest pretty much does itself... but it took me 4 hours of reading just
to get through the 'help'!
i had to recompile to make it work for an smp machine as well, good luck!

Not realy. I used to do some light unix geeking(mail setup/admin,
user accounts, backups, xwindows user scripts, wabi) 10+ years ago
but haven't touched the stuff lately.

How 'sticky' is sticky :)
