I have, and am of the opinion that both types are very annoying to
deal with.

For example, typical small keyboard hanging from some beam projecting
off the machine, usually with the monitor attached. Generally there
aren't enough keys for some editing functions, often there is only one
jog wheel which must be multiplexed between axis, and of course your
arm rapidly tires if you try to use the thing for manual machining (I
actually hold onto some of the swithes at times to relieve that).

Compared to home conversion... keyboard is always in the wrong place
or falling on the floor. Mouse invariably falls behind the computer.

I think a good solution would be to have a PC monitor mounted over the
machine. Then I'd like the keyboard protected somehow and mounted
right on the front where it is very convenient. The problem is how to
protect it from blue-hot chips.
