Hi Alex
Under linux, this is extremely easy to do not only for the cnc program, but
also the entire operating system. Using conventional hard drives and a
standard PC, I would partition the drive in to say four partitions.
Allocating just one for storage of the G code files and configuring it as
Read/Write, all other partitions would be set for Read Only.
Setting the system to boot straight in to the CNC program without using a
window manager will also prevent any unwanted programs (games, system tools,
etc) from being run.
Now that most of the hard drive is Read Only, any software changes or updates
will require a boot disk (either a floppy or CD). Even with these simple
measures in place, tampering is still possible by someone with sufficient
knowledge. Checksums can be used to validate the critical code, and as the
MD5 checksums also include the date, any tampering will be immediately
visible.
Regards, Paul.
