Woody, woody woody! What kind of machine do ya have? There are
several different ways to go depending on what ya got there.

One cool thing that wasn't memtioned in other responses... besides
CAD/CAM packages there are also CNC controller packages that
have "conversational" ability. No you don't talk to your machine
(although sometimes I do...) Moreover, It's a way of doing some
common operations (like cutting circles, trimming edges etc) by
entering in the parameters directly into the controller S/W, which
makes the machine do it right away. e.g. No interim steps, you go
from paper to production in one step. I use it to build brackets,
bolt-hole patterns, that kind of thing. Anyway just another option.
Several of the Fanuc, Mitsubishi, Centroid packages and also
Camsoft's CNC S/W have this feature on their controller packages (all
have retro-fit packages). I'd love to convince Ah-Ha Design (if they
haven't already) to provide a conversational interfaces (it's just a
bunch of forms actually).
