Beginner Guide ?

Hi Scot,
I too would like to see a beginners guide,
how to cad
how to G-code
how to CNC
how to select steppers vs servos, and controllers
etc, etc....
But I think that is all found on this list albiet in lots of threads.
the home page has the links to most of that stuff too.
how about one of the el cheapo engravers (I've seen some under
$100.00) as a beginners package. you would need to do it all to be
able to etch you name in a piece of plastic. But you would have done
it once, and not wasted $$$$ on the wrong rails (hardended ones
without mounting holes from e-bay) the wrong steppers, 1 volt, 0.5
watt 7deg per step, etc..... too steep a gradient such as EMC on
Linux for a Windows user who has problems with solitare... for a
minimal investment.
Since all the CNC cutting is really variations of the same thing, X
and Y the newbie then only has to make it fit the final application,
but from some experiance.
Also, if such a project was done, the beginner would have a level of
knoledge that the group would know.
That said, where would one start ?
heck, the old floppy drive mill/engraver is a simple hardware
starting point. All the basics are there, and it's just scrounging
for some cheap parts.
software ???
am I off track with this ??
