I thank you and Keith for your help.
Like yourself I don't want to cough up 1200$
for a prebuilt unit.

In the interest of simplicity I may
look at trying to drive the quill by placing a pully on the
quill hand feed lever. Though I would still want to be able
to use the machine manualy as well.

My machine is actually an Enco brand.

I would be interested in seeing your drawings when you get to the
point where you want to share them.
