Adding a flywheel is a bad thing. It decreases a step motor's already
miserable torque to inertia ratio. That means acceleration will even
slower. Further, the flywheel does nothing to damp resonance, it
simply lowers the resonant frequency and makes the resonance more
severe. The motor still has the same torque, but now it has a much
larger mass to shove around.
