Hi, it takes a lot of patience and practice. thread galling is a real
problem no matter what the material. I worked on a project for a screw
machine shop, it took about a year before the tap design, machine tight
enough, and feed steady enough. Must be watched constantly as the slightest
build up of chips will ruin the part. holding the part is also a challange.
a new cnc machine can do multipass single point quite well. sometimes the
part must be held by its od for support while threading. just not a nice job
to try doing without time and waste. Some of the parts we tried but were not
sucessful were wall thickness down to .005 in alum. .007 chrome brass(tobin)
was quite easy with a real solid machine. cul Brian f.
