You have a good idea...basically...but after turning and threading the ID,
I'd fill the inside of the cavity with cerrosafe. That would provide a
SOLID part (no distortion) for turning & threading the OD. After threading,
cut a groove thru the part into the cerrosafe. Melt out the cerrosafe and
your done.
