Hi Gene,

The symbol for "Micro" looks very much like a lower case "u". uF, mF,
and mfd all mean microfarad. You will also occasionally run into uuF,
mmF, pF, and pfd, all indicating picofarads.

Folks moved away from using "m" as a unit in electronics as in some
cases it means milli (1/1000), and other times it means micro
(1/1000000). Leads to some rather awkward moments! This was quite an
issue with inductors and voltages.

There is often inconsistency in the case of the letters used, m or u
means micro, M means Mega. Odds are if you see a part mere mortals can
easily get labeled MF on a schematic, it's a typo. Not too many Million
Farad caps at the stores :-) I once saw a turntable cartridge rated for
5 Megavolt output. Think they meant 5 mV rather than 5 MV?
