Sean in a nutshell (or house..depending).
Electrical: Ok
Concept: Excellent
Mechanical: VG
Humor: Superior
Electronic: ?....?....? (did I mention "?")
:-)
To me, a transistor is a tiny little back cylinder with 3 little
wires coming from it, which if surrounded by a brown film on the PCB
means my guitar amp wont work and I will have to spend 2 hours
finding out the Radio Shack guy knows even less. I think these are
used to start and stop, and maybe even control voltage
A capacitor is either a big blue cylinder or a little mentos wafer
looking thing with 2 leads and acts as a battery or buffer to smooth
out voltage. Big ones can carry a nice suprise.
A resistor looks like a big grain of rice with colored bands on it
which will stump the Radio shack guy for hours...epecially when
coated with a brown film. These reduce voltage as far as I know.
Ok, based on that, most of the transistors, capacitors, and
resistors are located on the cards that I swapped out. There are
also the big blue capacitors in the supply line and some really
pretty Mr T looking resistors which are hard to tell if they are pre-
or post drive card.
So am I looking for a little black cylinder with 3 wires that isn't
on a card?
The only other electronic "thingies" in the system I didn't mention
are 3 big coil/transformer looking deals called "axis reactors" by
the manual and a scattered amount of something that looks like a
relay with a clear plastic cover.
I guess it's obvious that I didn't stay at the electronics Holiday
Inn last night :-( I do have a good VOM though.
