Is the tip of the bulb a point rather than nice and
round? It sounds like some of the high-wattage lamps
I've seen used in mini spotlights. There should be a
3 or 4 digit number on the bulb which will be the part
number, and it may be preceded by OL- (Oshino Lamps)
or GE- (General Electric).

If you've got a part number I can probably give you a
supplier once I can check the catalogues at work.

If it's the type of bulb I'm thinking of, the
silvering is normal, but I don't know the purpose. My
guess is it concentrates all the light out the top of
the bulb, since they seem to be used for spot
illumination.
