On what control? It makes a difference.

On most controls, there is a "tool table" that has length and diameter values
for a number of tools. Most CNC controls use some function like
G41 D04 to tell it to use the diameter of tool #4 for this cutter offset.
You also have to give a lead-in linear move (some controls will also
accept an arc move) during which the move is interpolated in. The move
generally must be longer than the cutter radius, and also must not cause
a concave inside corner. This is tricky, and I have to lay it out on the
cad drawing to get it right. A similar lead-out move is required at
the end of the compensated section.
