We go down there quite often because my brother lives down in London. I live
further up North, much further, near Liverpool and Manchester where real men
come from! : ) I didn't see much but for the Tate where we went to an
exhibition about Picasso and Matiese. I have earned the token of 'Boring
git' since I don't find anything more interesting about such works of 'art'
than I do a fine piece of engineering. No artist will ever bet some of the
open minded, whacky ideas, I've seen machinists and engineers accomplish.
What's more, they do it themselves. And it's my decision what art is to me,
and it's a 3 ton beaver mill with chromed ways and four gecko axes.
All the London museums are worth a visit, particularly the Science one or
Imperial War museum. I believe there is a place round here called Iron Forge
where you can visit an old iron foundry that still uses a Bessemer blower!
The Stewart engines look pretty fun, I'd quite like to try a Sterling engine
out first though. You'll have to let us know how you get along with that.
You will find London compares to places like New York for prices, they will
happily charge you £3 for a sandwich and £2 for a cup of coffee because most
of the people there are raking it in. Probably be cheaper to take your
dinner with you!
