Well, I'm not an authority on any of this. I built a machine, ended up
building my own servo amps, which was an outrageous side trip,
but actually provided a terrific education in motion control systems.
The 3rd version of the servo amps not only work remarkably well,
they also have been quite reliable. (Of course, there are only 3
of them, but I really depend on them to be 'tools' rather than 'projects'.
I have pretty much left the whole machine setup as it was when I
got it completely working, and have to have a REALLY strong reason
to change anything on it.)

Getting a bunch of people together who want similar things to
knock ideas around can lead to some really well refined plans.
(It can also lead to endless meetings, so it is good that we are not
all in the same place!)
