No, the clock rates become insane when you talk about anything over
12 bits and above several hundred Hz update rate. I use the Burr Brown
DAC7644E, which is a 48-pin chip about the size of a standard 14-pin
DIP! A real bear to solder, but it has all the features I needed, especially
the capability to go to mid-range (zero volts) from one external signal.
That is what it does for E-stop. This is a 4-channel 16-bit DAC.
