I done the same in using 3/4" water pipe, steel bars or what worked
really well believe it or not was UHMW plastic rod about 1.5" dia.,
it made it easy to slide sideways, specially on a painted floor. As
far as skates go, unless in has one heck of a flat surface to run on
and a couple of helpers, won't ever use them again. I was rolling a
Hurco around in my shop and one of the skates got out because of the
floor and you can guess what happened next, luckly I could get a
forklift in the shop to stand it up.
