Hi,

Logic analysers are designed for digital circuitry, oscilloscopes for
analogue circuitry. To check out the stepper drive circuitry, both devices
are useful. The oscilloscope can be used to "see" noise in the power supply,
such as ripple, voltage spikes etc. Affordable oscilloscopes usually have 2
channels (they can display 2 separate waveforms at once) and have no storage
capability.

The logic analyser can only present the data as either Hi (5V) or Lo (0v).
The advantage of the logic analyser is that it can capture 8, 16 or more
channels at once, and captures a number of samples, i.e.; 1024 or more.

A logic probe shows the state of a single line, Hi, Lo, open, or clocking.
You cannot "See" the signal, determine the frequency if it is changing or
measure it in the time domain (frequency).

With the data from the logic analyser, I can measure the period between the
step pulses and determine it is constant and not jittering.

I hope this helps.
