If I'm not mistaken..., the 5v( or gnd) is
really referring to the
opto setp/dir common and not used within the Gecko
itself for logic. He derives internal voltages from the
Vmotor using a HV regulator. So you could use
higher volts( within reason ) as long as you
limit the current to about 20mA max for the
opto's internal LED's. Connections will also
depend on the newer drive's setting for
common anodes or cathodes of the optos.

I'd recommend one Alan mentioned at 5v regulated and
300mA or better so you could drive other circuits
and inputs if needed.
