Instead of using a wall wart, why not use the +5VDC from your PC? It
is available on pin 1 of your game port. The current is only 0.032A
per drive (both STEP and DIRECTION optos on).
The problem with using voltages greater than +5VDC is the opto may
not turn off and you could damage yor parallel port.
The opto diode has a forward voltage of 1.5VDC. It would be
continuously "on" regardless of what the STEP output does if the
voltage were 6.5V or greater. Also, noise immunity is degraded at
voltages greater than 5VDC.
The parallel port logic is meant to operate at 5VDC. It may not be
real happy if it sees a pull-up resistor going 6V or higher.
