Hi Jon,
Well, looks like I'm using it wrong too. I really only use it this way!
After reading the "handbook" some more today, I figure G54 etc. ought to
be useful for fixtures. I just realized (finally understood) that G53
is for physical coordinates and G54, G55 etc. are for different
fixtures. So, if I figure out where to put home switches on the
Sherline mill, I can then note the fixture offsets (or where ever the
part is secured), and then always get back to it. At least I *think*
that's what somebody had in mind. I currently secure the part, set the
edges or reference point with an edge finder, and use "G92 X-.1" (as
you're describing) to set my zero reference (and similar for Y). Works
fine if the machine doesn't loose it, and I don't machine away the
reference edges! I'm still open to ideas!
G92 is for temporary adjustments??
