Brent,

I'm using G340's and servo motors. Use steppermod, as the Gecko servo drives
generate their own smooth pulse train and no PID parameters need
to be set in EMC with steppermod. The gain on my drives are set almost to
the mininum position also and it has great performance. One of the motors
has a 1000 ppr encoder and the other is 500 ppr. I think I set the pulse
multiplier to 5 on the 1000 line encoder and 2 on the 500 line encoder,
can't remember right now. Motors are direct drive to .2" per rev ballscrews.
I can
do about 400 ipm rapids although I never really go that high.

I had stepper motors driven by some nice Compumotor S drives and the
machine had some bad vibrations at certain speeds. Once I switched to
servo motors performance improved 1000%.
