why are not more
Chris, you have made some excellent points. That is why the Dolphin
Partmaster system has the CAD and machining as seperate modules.
This way there is no need to add lots of buttons to try and be able
to do everything from the one screen. Some systems try to cram a CAD
and CAM window together at the same time. This is usually because the
CAD is required to 'draw' the toolpaths, and therefor the two systems
(CAD & CAM) are inextricably linked.
I personally love the Dolphin Partmaster CAD, but not everybody does.
So you can import your machineable geometry (dxf) straight into the
Dolphin Partmaster CAM module if you wish, so you can stick with your
preffered CAD module.
The Dolphin 3DCAM system is exactly what you are asking for Chris. It
is a 3D CAM system. You can manipulate the imported geometry (IGES,
DXF, STL, VRML, PostScript, 3DM, SGM) by Transition (Move X/Y/Z),
Rotation (Around X,Y,Z), Scale, Symmetry (Mirror) and locate Zero
(set datum).
The layout of the screen is very uncluttered, but this disguises the
fact that this system is packed with many useful machining strategies.
I have used my system to complete machining tasks that other mega
bucks systems couldn't even get started on.
Both of the Dolphin products (Partmaster and 3DCAM) are under
constant, user led development, and are well supported in the US by
Bill Griffin, and in the UK by Dolphin themselves. And with the new
Yahoo users forum, there will be plenty of help and discussions from
the growing band of commercial and hobby users worldwide.
