make that recommendation. However, In a recent discussion with Ron at
FlashCut, Sherline sales have been rather brisk. The situation is the
"Office" guys want to make a scale model or prototype of something they
are thinking of. When they head out to the Shop Floor, All of the
company machines are too busy to give them any "time", or the
cooperation level from the guys with dirty hands is less than perfect.
So, many companies are springing for Desktop, Right in the office, CNC
machines. They put them in a clear plexi box, and while cutting wax or
plastic, they are pretty quiet. The bottom line is, Companys will surely
appreciate being able to have a little machine like that operate safely
in the background without another PC to maintain. Not much different
than having a printer connected. Nobody even thinks about whether their
print or Plotter operation will "work or not", it just does. All in All,
its coming, like it or not. I like it. And, if it really Works, Why not
! One other issue is that the PC based Windows controls are to a level
where you really need a little more horsepower to pull it off smoothly.
So, it is understandable that they may not have any High P3 or low P4
machines lying around as spares. Where I work my Day job, I maintain 15
or 16 Computers... We are still running a lot of Slot 1 300's. Even they
are getting too small for moder PC controls.
Now that I have proven on my machine that FC pulls this
machining/multitasking off flawlessly, I just might buy an Altec Lansing
set of speakers with Subwoofer to compliment my Machine and elevate the
ambiance in the work area. :-)
