If I did the conversion right these motors can only develop about 60
in/oz of torque. (6.51 Nm) That won't be enough torque for this
machine as a direct connection, (5 ft/lbs? I doubt it) so it seems I
could use the conedrive reducers (20:1) but will clearly need a
feedback mechanism of some sort since there will be a small backlash
in the reducer. Does that make sense? Or would I be better off
looking for different servos?
Maybe I should just use it the way it is (horrid flashbacks of
maintaining air logic systems) but that'll cause problems with
supplying enough power. I suspect I'll spend quite some time on
inspection, cleanup, evaluation, and perhaps some paint, but I want
to sort out the controls as quickly as is practical. That's probably
measured in months or quarters.
The guys showed up saturday and closed in my carport. In and out
before I even knew they were here, and did a great job on it too.
Very courteous as well. I think they were trying to catch up on the
time they'd lost because of the wheel bearing problem they had so I
tried not to keep them. Anyway, weather permitting, tuesday's the
day. The trailer is beefed up, I built a 10' x 4' skid for it, and
it should be pretty easy going. The winch on the trailer should be a
big help.
