I use two of these transformers in my driver box, wired for 110 volts as
specified on the transformer. It is a single primary with a center tap to
allow for 110 volt operation. You only need to hook up the wires specified
for 110 volt operation to get full current out of the transformer. I
suspect that when you hook up the second wire you are either drawing too
much current or creating a short circuit which caused the breaker to trip.
Use one red wire and the black wire and you will be in good shape.
