CAM Software & DXF

I realize that this has been beaten to death multiple times, but
hopefully someone will be kind enough to answer anyway!
I'm trying to find some CAM software that will take my dxf files (made
with Adobe Illustrator on a Mac) and create GCode.. So far I've tried
VisualMill basic (can't import dxf) and the VisualMill 4.0 demo (says it
imports dxf but there isn't anything there when you open the dxf file -
perhaps I'm just stupid).
However, I'm hoping to find something a little less expensive. I'm not
yet at the point where I need much in the way of features - I'm basically
just trying to make a very simply 2.5D part (I've only got servos on X
and Y so far).
I can also export as dwg if that makes any difference..
It seems like a lot of the available CAM software want you to use
specific CAD software, although that might just be a demo limitation.
Thanks,
