Vince,
A grounding rod is often several thousand ohms resistance
in dry soil. Fine for lightning strikes but no good for
a floating neutral.
I have used Copley 412 as my standard drop-in servo amp
for several years. It costs about $300 in small quantities.
When Mariss finishes up the G310 I may switch to that
as my standard servo amp because it will be around
half the cost.
These are full servo amps with torque or velocity control.
They take a plus or minus 10v analog input signal and
are used with a servo controller rather than a stepper
control.
For encoders I recommend U.S. digital E3.
It is about $50. This can be converted from single
ended to differential with a little $12 snap on thing
they sell , or you can make your own easily with an
integrated circuit that costs about a dollar.
I'll help you off list when you
are ready to install some.
