The old vive's tale I alluded to was that simply removing the end caps
would cause problems. Mariss's posts talk about problems caused by removing
the rotor from the stator.

I believe Mariss's most recent post confirms my view that just removing the
end caps is NOT something that should be a cause for concern, as long as
you take simple precautions to avoid ingress of swarf.
