I've solved my "too long cheapo scale" problem by a fiendishly
clever mounting arrangement.
OK, it's NOT fiendishly clever .. it's not clever at all. But
it took me ALL DAY to make up the six little parts, three per
side, so I'm sticking with the clever story.
Problem was, I had to remove the servo motors to get the measurements
and do the installation, meaning I had to do all the machining (including
angles and such ) BY HAND. It took a LOT longer than it does when the
computer does all the work !
Now I'm left with two problems.
1. getting the SPC signal to the "master" readout. I DO have some cables,
but they come straight out the top of the "sensor". With the added
length of the strain relief, they interfere with just about everything.
I'm seriously considering simply soldering wire wrap wire to the SPC pads
and running that to some other small connector mounted at right angles.
I'm thinking about small LEMOs, cuz they're cool and I've got some. I'm
also thinking about a curly telephone cable, as things will be pretty
much completely covered and protected.
2. figuring out a way to turn one of the "sensors" on and off. Two of
my scales power on when moved and power off when left to sit. But one
of them requires a manual power on and power off. And those buttons
will be right behind the plate used to couple the sensor to the table.
The solder trick won't work here, as the sensor is glued AND riveted
together. Disassembly of this to get to the switch contacts looks like
a recipe for disaster.
So, if anyone does have a line on the raw connectors, do speak up.
