Repeatability is what is important . It is important that no matter how
many times you hit the switch ( at similar speeds ), that it always
"comes back" to the same numbers. I can tell you that with all the extra
work ( and sometimes money) of using Proximity or Optical type switches
( power supply, wiring, contact patches...), It might not be even worth
it. I've had to troubleshoot bad proximity switches that took a lot
longer than to just take a meter and check a mechanical switch.... That
L.E.D. is NOT always telling the truth !
The typical Cherry "Snap" switches I use, always are within .0003".
Heck, the temperature in the room at any given time can affect the
"actualitys" more than that. So, I've found these the most economical
and trustworthy for me. Easy to check... Just set up a dial indicator on
the axis and send into the switch about 50 times... You'll get a good
idea if the switch is accurate enough or not by then.
Of course, it all depends on your specific needs, desires and wants.
