Current sinking devices switch ground (dc common) to a load. The load is
connected between the output of the sensor and the positive side of the
power supply.
Current 'sourcing' devices switch positive dc to a load. The load is
connected between the output of the sensor and the negative (common) side of
the power supply.
It is important to get this deviced connected properly, otherwise you will
invoke "make smoke."
