I put quotes around that common because there was some recent discussion
about the meaning of common.
In the case of the 320, it needs an external +5 volts to screw terminal #12.
The other side of the external supply should be connected to the parport
ground. Then the step (11) and direction (10) terminals should be connected
to the relevant parport pins. This is the only way that the parport can
pull the step and direction terminals between +5 and ground.
You could get that +5 from a game port or you can get it from one of the
power supply connectors inside the pc. You can not get the +5 from the
parport itself.
