The -T6 means it has been heat treated to bring it to the maximum
hardness. that makes it
much more machinable. It cuts cleanly, giving small chips and a sharp
edge. 6061-T2
will have something like a mold flash on the cut edge, and can make
stringy chips that
foul the cutter. Most of the other alloys have similar heat treat
options. Just leaving
it out in an unheated garage in the spring and fall for a few days of
temperature cycling
will bring many aluminum grades up close to the T6.

7075 is a different alloy, and may not be heat treatable. I don't
remember seeing heat treat
codes on 7075.
