I use Autocad for my initial cad designs and then import them into
Surfcam. Surfcam as well as many other cam programs have a cad
feature, but it generaly pales in comparison to Autocad's robust
useability. Also, I have been using Autocad for many years, and I
don't have to learn a new cad program just because I upgraded my cam
package. Sometimes I will use the cad component inside of Surfcam
to "tweak" the designs, but as a rule, I just use Surfcam to generate
toolpaths and g-code. Also, I like to fool around with some of the
new cam programs that offer demos (like Rhino) and Autocad has a very
robust export option that allows me to export files in a variety of
formats from DXF to IGES and even Solids.
