If you do decide to get the tap Tim mentions (and have more than
one hole to tap), a note: way back, before I had any proper tools
(still, I could use more), I bought one of the same steel flangles
and used it as a guide when tapping. I clamped it on to the the
piece of aluminum I wanted to tap. This really helped to keep the
tap square in the hole as I was manually tapping. Also, I didn't
have any problems "starting" the thread in the aluminum as the tap
was, by then, firmly held in place by the flange.
