One more thing...
I've seen issues like this occure with other Microcontroller systems..
With Power off of course go through and press down on all socketed IC's.
(especially Ram IC's or modules) Making sure that they are seated
properly.
Not too much pressure though. (common sense approach)
Any edge-connected boards should be pulled out and reseated.
Sometimes, with age, oxides buildup on the connections causing increased
ohms or plain disconnection...
I've had a 60% or greater success rate with older equipment by doing this.
