Hi David,
If you're already having problems, and it IS the EPROMS, you don't want
what you have. Buy new ones, make a copy to CD, then you've got some
backup.
I'd find a buddy who likes to build imbedded controller applications,
maybe even a HAM. They can use a EPROM programmer to read your (GOOD)
EPROMS, and save them to CD. You might be able to find an EPROM
programmer in "Circuit Cellar" magazine (or similar). But expect to pay
about $50 - $100.
A further note, most code stored in EPROMS is done with a checksum.
This checksum validates the contents of the EPROMS upon startup of
whatever "system" it is running. Someone with an EPROM programmer can
"read" your EPROMS, and see/verify a checksum.
Thus, I'd expect a "BIOS checksum error" or similar message if you were
having a failure. The "BIOS" is of course the familiar name given to
the EPROM code in a PC. Yours will undoubtedly be different. You could
have bad RAM in the controller. Is there a diagnostic you can run?
What does your service manual say?
