*PERSONALLY*, if you've got enough travel in your quill, I wouldn't bother.
The thing is, there *are* some times that moving a knee is very handy,
like clearing odd shaped workpieces, fixturing, and hold-downs.
It would be very easy to call the knee a fourth axis and integrate a clamping
signal much like a spindle brake.
