OK, I couldn't resist trying the beta. It is available at:
http://www.deskam.com/deskncrt.htm
First, it uses the exact same pinouts as EMC so you can try it by just
booting to DOS and the program is small enough that it will all fit on a
floppy along with a DOS boot. I got my machine to move, but I am reserving
judgment until I spend a little more time learning how to work the program.
I will admit that it is pretty strange to have all the commands command line
based. Looks like I will have to print up a cheat sheet to put by the
keyboard. From my brief experience I think I will be staying with EMC as I
definitely like the GUI interface as opposed to the DeskNCRT command line.
Also I like in EMC being able to put it in MDI mode and just type in the
moves as opposed to prefacing every line with mdi as DeskNCRT seems to want.
If someone that has more experience with DeskNCRT can help me (Carl, are you
on the list? or Dan), I am having a little difficulty understanding what the
MAX_VELOCITY and DEFAULT_VELOCITY units are in?? In EMC they are units per
second so 1 = 60 ipm. Here they seem to be in units per minute so 1 = 1 ipm.
Is this correct?
I would be interested in hearing what anyone else that has tried the beta
thinks.
