Hi Leslie;
thanks for the response. After doing a bit of online work, I've
discovered that extension arbors are available for ER series
collets. They come in many sizes thankfully some with 1/2" shafts.
My thinking is that such extensions would be ideal for operating small
diameter burrs, end mills and such with a standard router. They may
even eliminate some of the seating issues you bring up. For large
diameter bits it may do more harm than good as you would want to avoid
as much extension as possible.
