Triacs and SCRs turn on, and stay on until either 1) the current drops
below a set value (you can't set it), or the voltage reverses
(reducing the current).

Therefore, good only for AC or applications where there will be
another way of turning off the current...

SSR, but one with an FET or bipolar transistor. A good cheap
electromechanical relay is the headlight relay in a car. 12 volts in,
30 amps capability.
