I rescued a threaded garage door opener from the dreaded refuse
haulers. It is greasy, but it is long and multi-start. Maybe too
many starts.

That is one source of screw I have heard about, but don't recall
people talking about.

As for precision, I would highly doubt it. It is probably rolled as
the simplest form of manufacture and to obtain a very smooth surface
for the sliding threads.

it may have good individual specs as sometimes automating a
proceedure will off tighter tollerances by the way it is made, but I
don't think precision is a term for this type of screw.
