As I have seen this EMC runs from the BDI CD under the Morphix
incarnation of UNIX. Not Linux per se. But the net effect is the
same, no need to install any flavor of UNIX on the computer to get it
going.
Below is the text of a previous post I made on how to get this
downloaded, get the CD made, and boot it.
This is a couple of months old by now.
Thanks and have fun,

Here's what I did: (roughly)
Go to linuxcnc.org
Click on the News link on the nav bar to the left
Go down to the "BDI-Live_rc21 is now available obstinate.org" and
click on the link there.
Down load the BDI-Live rc23.iso file
Then if you don't have an ISO widget for Windows XP go to
http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm
Follow the direction here for the ISO Power Toy (Not the CreateCD
program)
If you have another OS, you'll have to search for a tool to make a
CD image from the ISO file.
Once you get the CD burned you'll need to boot from it on a PC. Pcs
are different but in some way you will have to probably enter the
CMOS setup at boot and set the machine to boot from CD. My machines
are all fairly new (3 years at ther worst) so this was pretty easy.
If your PC is really older this might be a pain or not even
possible.
Whe you get the PC set to boot from PC then put the CD in and
restart the machine. Watch the screen. At some point it asks you to
press F2 I think it was for verbose mode. That let me see that it
was doing something.
Eventually it flashes several pengiun images, loads a bunch of
stuff, and then opens up to an X-Windows screen. At the bottom there
should be an icon with the tiny EMC Penguin on it. Hover over that
and you'll see it says EMC. Click it and the EMC program starts.
