In my research on the magnetic encoders it does mention that they are very
tolerant to contaminates and fluids. I guess the biggest worry is shorting
out the little circuit board for the sensor. The gap between the sensor and
the magnetic wheel is only .004" But I am impressed. I'll have to look to
see if they have these in a linear magnetic encoder.
