I'm just tinkering with a Yaskawa brushless motor that uses a magnetic
encoder.
it seems that the motor had gear oil leak into it, and nobody even
noticed, as the
encoder was still working just fine. Obviously, an optical encoder
would not work
too well when partially filled with oil!
