Re: [CAD_CAM_EDM_DRO] Dos v3.3 video resolution

Hi Shawn,

I'm not Jon, but perhaps this will help. What sweep rates does the LCD
monitor expect? 72 Hz vertical? 15,750 Hz horz??

Once you know the rates that the monitor will work at, then look up the
video modes of the video board, and find the modes that match the LCD.
Maybe they won't! It might require a special board for LCD monitors (I
haven't used 'em).

Mode 3 is 80 column text, mode 7 is mono. Various video modes
(typically 0Ch on up) are in addition them. DOS does not no much about
video, the BIOS only supports a few modes; text modes and CGA/EGA/VGA
typically. After that, the VIDEO BIOS that is added by the video board
(or loaded) supports all the HI res stuff, Vres, Xres256 ... The
Trident driver should provide extra modes.

DOS runs in one of the text or mono modes, the DOS PROGRAM goes into
GRAPHICS mode when it wants to. It might only work in a few modes,
these MUST match the video board AND the MONITOR's capabilities.

WIDNOZ is a little better, a driver is usually provided for the
board/monitor, and your windoz programs can select from that. But again
the board must be able to match a monitor's mode, that's all the program
(and windoz) can select from, if it is to work.

That's a simplified description, but you get the idea. Board matches LCD.

P.S. MS-DOS 6.22 couldn't hurt!
