If I had to guess from your question, you have not done this
before. Because of that, it may be useful to first "play" with the gecko
with the motor not attached to anything. Little chance of breaking
something this way, and you can try twisting the motor shaft to see how
"stiff" it is, etc. Getting a good feeling on how the different pots
interact now will help when "tuning" with the motor attached to the
mill. "Which is better"? Of course to tune it with the motor attached to
the mill. Is doing it this way always required? Not always. Depends on
your requirements. Try it and see, but most importantly, have fun!
