The combination of Mach2, Jim and Bobs Mach2 Break-out board and Gecko drives would be hard to beat I would think. These three components for CNC make the build and resulting machine very pleasant and reliable. They all work together for very smooth and predictable operation. I had very little prior electronics experience when I put mine together and it was easy. Just follow the directions and they are practically plug and play. Each of these manufacturers seem to be diligently upgrading and perfecting their products. Making them even better than they already are. I'm going to do another one and I'll be using the exact same configuration. I can't say from limited experience if its the best route but I stick with what works.

Hey but I got a question..Bad need an answer to this'un.I want to
buy a breakout board but am confused by the language used to describe
them.(cause this is my first cnc build project) .I like aspects of
the Mach2 board by Bob Campbell(?) but it seems to require use of
Mach1 or 2 controller software ..may have the name wrong and I dunno
if I am understanding the online catalog description correctly..I am
not gonna use that particular software but I have Rutex drives in
hand , power supplies , servo motors and all else mechanical sitting
waiting to be controlled and I want some isolation. The Mach 2 board -
with another add on board- promised to control my VFD spindle drive
too so I lean in that direction..
Sorry if I dont know enough about the subject to ask a clear
question but it appears to me that I can either ask vague/general
questions here or I can start sending checks across the planet in
hopes something will work and I'll learn that way.
